U.S. Cellular To Expand Free Mobile Data Content

Customers will now have access to Local News and Spanish Language websites through easyedgeSM ToGo

CHICAGO, April 3, 2004 - Expanded Spanish language and local news content are two of the ways that U.S. Cellular is continuing to enhance easyedgeSM To Go, a free Web portal application that allows U.S. Cellular customers to stay in the know while on the go. The expanded web browsing capabilities, based upon Novarra’s next generation operator portal platform, follow on the heels of last September’s easyedge To Go product launch and now provide U.S. Cellular customers with even more access to timely and relevant information from selected mobile-friendly Web sites.

With easyedge To Go, U.S. Cellular customers can check breaking news headlines, weather forecasts and sports scores as well as movie show times, flight schedules, horoscopes and e-mail. Customers will now be able to enter in their zip code to receive access to local news Web sites directly on their wireless handsets. The new “En Español” link will allow customers to obtain information including news, sports, e-mail, and horoscopes in both English and Spanish.

“We’re always looking for ways to increase customer satisfaction,” said John Cregier, senior director of product development and management at U.S. Cellular. “The flexibility and customization of easyedge To Go means that our customers can quickly and easily be connected with information that is important to them.”

“U.S. Cellular customers will benefit most from the breadth of content and choice that we enabled,” said Bruce Simpson, chief operating officer for Novarra. “We are pleased to see U.S. Cellular deliver personalized and meaningful content to its subscribers, thereby fulfilling its commitment to superior customer satisfaction.”

The easyedge To Go data service is built on Novarra’s nWeb™ portal platform, which means that subscribers will enjoy a choice of content that is automatically adapted to their phones for optimal viewing. The Novarra micro-browser for BREW is deployed on 19 U.S. Cellular handsets and provides offline content updating, advanced caching and mobile zoom for a quality user experience. With industry leading speed, the easyedge To Go home page loads in an average of seven seconds over U.S. Cellular’s CDMA 1xRTT network. The Novarra content adaptation server removes content fragmentation issues, automatically providing a consistent user experience across all handsets.

As of Sept. 30, 2005, U.S. Cellular, the nation's sixth-largest wireless service carrier, provided wireless service to 5.3 million customers in 25 states. The Chicago-based company operates on a customer satisfaction strategy, meeting customer needs by providing a comprehensive range of wireless products and services, superior customer support and a high-quality network.
